About the Role

Apply your senior software engineering expertise to challenging technical problems that help train next-generation AI systems. You’ll create Reinforcement Learning environments that test AI models on complex software engineering tasks, including debugging, feature development, code refactoring, and performance optimization.

You’ll build reproducible environments and golden reference solutions that provide reliable benchmarks for evaluating AI-generated software solutions. Prior AI experience is not required; strong software engineering expertise is the primary requirement.

Key Responsibilities

Software Engineering & Development

• Create expert-level coding tasks covering bug fixing, feature implementation, refactoring, and performance optimization.

• Contribute high-quality code samples and development insights across supported programming languages.

• Implement robust features with a focus on scalability, maintainability, and software engineering best practices.

• Work across diverse and potentially unfamiliar codebases.

Debugging & Performance Optimization

• Analyze, troubleshoot, and resolve complex software defects.

• Identify and address performance bottlenecks.

• Refactor legacy code to improve clarity, efficiency, maintainability, and long-term reliability.

• Apply effective debugging and optimization strategies to complex systems.

Reinforcement Learning Environments

• Create reproducible environments for software engineering problems.

• Develop golden reference solutions against which AI-generated solutions can be evaluated.

• Design challenging tasks that accurately test AI models' ability to solve real-world engineering problems.

Code Review & Technical Documentation

• Review and validate peer-contributed code and technical submissions.

• Assess solutions for accuracy, clarity, and adherence to software engineering principles.

• Document technical reasoning, solution approaches, and important code decisions.

• Produce clear technical documentation that supports high-quality AI training data.

Required Skills & Experience

• Significant hands-on software engineering experience in one or more of:

  • Python 3

  • Java

  • Rust

  • Go

  • C++

  • TypeScript

• Deep understanding of algorithms, data structures, and software engineering principles.

• Proven ability to debug complex systems and resolve difficult software defects.

• Experience implementing features from conception through delivery.

• Strong experience with codebase refactoring, including legacy system modernization.

• Experience identifying and resolving performance bottlenecks.

• Ability to develop scalable, maintainable, and reliable software.

• Strong technical judgment and code review skills.

• Ability to work with diverse or unfamiliar codebases.

• Strong technical documentation and communication skills.

• Ability to clearly explain technical reasoning, solution approaches, and code decisions.

• Ability to work independently and consistently deliver high-quality technical outputs.

• Interest in AI and technical challenges is welcome, but previous AI experience is not required.

Hourly Rate: $100–$150/hour equivalent
