Compensation: $50–$105 per hour
Engagement Type: Contractor
Location: Fully Remote – Africa

About the Role

We are seeking experienced Photography and Cinematography Experts to evaluate professional photo and video content for technical quality, visual composition and alignment with creative briefs. This opportunity is suited to professionals with hands-on experience capturing and producing visual content for clients, brands, publications, film projects or other professional productions.

You will review photographs and video clips, assess the quality of individual shots and determine how effectively they meet the intended creative direction and audience requirements. Your evaluations will cover important production elements such as exposure, focus, color, framing, lens selection and camera movement. You will also identify technical issues that could affect post-production or final delivery and provide clear written explanations of your assessments.

The role is ideal for photographers, cinematographers, directors of photography, camera operators and video producers who understand the full production process, from interpreting briefs and planning shoot days to editing, grading and delivering finished work.

Key Responsibilities

  • Photo and Video Evaluation: Review photographs and video clips and identify the strongest visual material for specific briefs, audiences and intended applications.

  • Technical Quality Assessment: Evaluate exposure, focus, sharpness, color accuracy, framing, lens selection and camera movement.

  • Composition and Visual Storytelling: Assess how effectively shots communicate the intended message, subject and creative direction.

  • Production Issue Identification: Flag technical problems such as excessive image noise, flickering, clipped highlights, incorrect frame rates or unsuitable file formats.

  • Brief Alignment: Determine whether captured content meets the creative requirements and intended use, including print, web, social media, broadcast or film.

  • Camera and Shooting Decisions: Assess the effectiveness of camera settings, lighting, framing and other technical choices in achieving the desired visual result.

  • Post-Production Quality Review: Evaluate editing, color grading and final output for consistency, technical accuracy and suitability for delivery.

  • Comparative Assessment: Explain the strengths and weaknesses of different shots or visual approaches and identify which best meets the project requirements.

  • Decision Documentation: Provide concise written explanations for each assessment so reviewers can understand the reasoning behind your recommendations.

Required Qualifications and Experience

  • Professional experience as a Photographer, Cinematographer, Director of Photography, Camera Operator, Video Producer or in a closely related production role.

  • Practical experience shooting photographs or video for clients, brands, publications, commercial projects or professional productions.

  • Experience working on real production assignments involving creative briefs, shoot days, post-production and final delivery.

  • Strong understanding of photographic and cinematographic principles, including exposure, focus, composition, lighting, framing, lens selection and camera movement.

  • Proficiency with professional cameras and relevant editing or color-grading applications such as Adobe Lightroom, Adobe Photoshop, DaVinci Resolve or Adobe Premiere Pro.

  • Ability to identify technical defects and assess their potential impact on the final output.

  • Understanding of different delivery requirements for print, digital platforms, social media, broadcast and film.

  • Strong visual judgment and the ability to explain why one shot or sequence is more effective than another.

  • Excellent attention to detail and clear written English communication skills.

Preferred Background

Experience in commercial photography, film production, cinematography, advertising, editorial photography, branded content, broadcast production or digital video production is beneficial. Candidates who have managed projects across shooting, editing, color grading and final delivery will bring valuable practical insight.

Selection Process

  1. Application: Submit your resume and a short professional profile highlighting your photography, cinematography or video production experience.

  2. Production Interview: Complete a short conversation about your professional experience with shooting, camera techniques, production workflows and post-production. No advance preparation, written assignment or review of materials is required.

  3. Experience Review: Your professional background will be assessed against the project's requirements.

  4. Onboarding: If selected, you will receive the relevant project guidelines and instructions.

  5. Initial Task: You will begin with an initial task, which will be reviewed before you proceed with further assignments.
